Things Done in the Dark

John 3:19

And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 7:7

The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that its deeds are evil.

My whole world levels when I think of the idea that if it was not for Jesus I would be hopelessly lost and would go to hell upon my death.

I too just was a sinner, just as you were before you were born again. There are some among us tonight, if Jesus took the life he gave you right now, you would go straight to a devil’s hell, because you have never given Jesus your heart.

Romans 3:10

As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;

We all were alike, we weren’t born innocent, we were born lost. We were born with no ability to be right with God because we were born a sinner.

When Adam sinned, every offspring from there forward was a sinner by nature.

The incarnation of Christ involved a permanent union between God and man. Complete manhood “body, soul, spirit”

We have seen Jesus in the types and shadows of the Old Testament,

When Jesus was born of the virgin Mary it truly was God with man. Jesus never knew sin, he wasn’t a sinner ever, he wasn’t conceived in sin, he was conceived by the HolyGhost.

Romans 5:1-2 (NKJV)

1Therefore, having been justified by faith, [a]we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Jesus knew only to do good, he never had to sin, he had no sin in him, satan could not find any sin in him, so he was never a sinner.

How do we know we are a sinner? Because satan did tempt you and I, and we did sin.

Jesus never sinned, because no sin was in him.

John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:5

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Light exposes darkness. Men chose to do their dirty deeds in the dark as if God didn’t see them. Understand something about God. He knows everything, He knows your revealed sin as well as your hidden sin.

It’s like during the day people live one way, but at night they live another. Things done in the dark!

Daniel 5:1-5 (NKJV)

Belshazzar’s Feast

1Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand. While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave the command to bring the gold and silver vessels which his [a]father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple which had been in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken from the temple of the house of God which had been in Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze and iron, wood and stone.

{The deeds they done was open rebellion against God}

In the same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

That night the kingdom was taken, Belshazzar died, it was his first day in hell, and this is where he is right now.

Things done in the dark!

Hebrews 4:13 (NKJV)

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Micah 2:1

Woe to those who devise iniquity,

And work out evil on their beds!

At morning light they practice it,

Because it is in the power of their hand.

Proverbs 4:16

For they cannot sleep unless they do evil;
And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.

Samson’s Weakness

Judges 16:1-6

1 Now Samson went to Gaza and saw a prostitute there, and had relations with her. When it was reported to the Gazites, saying, “Samson has come here,” they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. And they kept silent all night, saying, “Let’s wait until the morning light, then we will kill him.” Now Samson lay asleep until midnight, and at midnight he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two doorposts, and pulled them up along with the bars; then he put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain which is opposite Hebron.

After this it came about that he was in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. So the governors of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and [a]how we can overpower him so that we may bind him to humble him. Then we will each give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and [b]how you can be bound to humble you.”

Delilah wasn’t Samson’s downfall; his downfall was the lust of his heart. Delilah came by the way of the dark,

Things done in the dark!

Delilah Extracts His Secret

Judges 16:15-20

15 Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have toyed with me these three times and have not told me where your great strength is.” 16 And it came about, when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was [n]annoyed to death. 17 So he told her all that was in his heart and said to her, “A razor has never come on my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me and I will become weak and be like any other man.”

18 When Delilah saw that he had told her all that was in his heart, she sent word and called the governors of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has told me all that is in his heart.” Then the governors of the Philistines came up to her and brought up the money in their hands. 19 And she made him sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to humble him, and his strength left him. 20 She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

The real reason people don’t worship Jesus is?

What’s holding you back?

The real reason people don’t pray is?

If we can’t love one another, how can we love God?

If I do all the things God said not to do, how can I say I love God?

Situational ethics.

Situational morality.

We live in a time of no absolutes,

Why is it that people bring alcohol out at night? Drugs, prepare people for the sin of the night.

Genesis 19, we have the story of Sodom and Gomorrah

 The Doom of Sodom

Genesis 19:1-8

1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he stood up to meet them and [a]bowed down with his face to the ground. And he said, “Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” They said, “No, but we shall spend the night in the public square.” Yet he strongly urged them, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. Before they lay down, the men of the city—the men of Sodom—surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people [b]from every quarter; and they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may [c]have relations with them.” But Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him, and said, “Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly. Now look, I have two daughters who have not [d]had relations with any man; please let me bring them out to you, and do to them [e]whatever you like; only do not do anything to these men, because they have come under the [f]shelter of my roof.”

Listen to me, they went to bed as if all was going to be the same the next day, but tomorrow never came. That night the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah
