15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
The Description of Jesus here is dynamic, incredible, marvelous “listen to John”:
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
That sword in the mouth of Christ has my attention today. The sword Jesus has coming out of his mouth is The Word of God, it is like a sword that has two edges cutting both ways and doing terrible damage to an aggressor. Ephesians 6:17 calls it “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”. The term “word” is taken from the Greek word rhema, which describes something that is spoken clearly, vividly, in unmistakable terms and undeniable language. In the New Testament, the word rhema carries the idea of a quickened word.
My heart is crying for revival! The last thing the world wants is a revival of the word, but it’s my heart’s cry. My heart cries, “God let there be a shift in me and in your Ministers, a revival of the word of God.” I know we are living in the time of famine; the famine of the Word has already begun. It’s a season of Famine we must pass through.
I have a vision of a sword in my mouth. A sword likened to the Lord’s.
The adversary would like to shut the mouth of God’s Ministers. He would love to shut the mouths of the Prophets. He knows there is no word, no Rhema word. A prophet speaks a Rhema word, a living word, a now word. A word from the throne room, a word set fire by God in the mouth of the carrier. A Sword in my mouth.
John the Baptist wasn’t a man who ruled by fear, or hatred, or witchcraft but ruled with an obedience to the word of God. The sword in John’s mouth caused Herod much trouble.
The sword in John’s mouth called the sin of Herod out. No, John didn’t send the word, John carried the word of the Lord and rebuked Herod to his face. Well, he put John in prison and for fear of the people he didn’t kill him. But Herod’s wife Herodias, under a Jezebel spirit, used her daughter to dance in a most provocative, lustful way to Herod. Herod then made a statement straight from the lips of the serpent. He told Herodias’ daughter “I will give you anything you want to half the kingdom”, what she got was John’s head on a platter.
14 Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
15 Others said, “It is Elijah.”
And others said, “It is [a]the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
16 But when Herod heard, he said, “This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!” 17 For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. 18 Because John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19 Therefore Herodias [b]held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he [c]did many things, and heard him gladly.
21 Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. 22 And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” 23 He also swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”
24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?”
And she said, “The head of John the Baptist!”
25 Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. 27 Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
Make no mistake, the devil has been shutting the mouth of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors, Teachers, Missionaries from day one. He’s been after the word of the Lord.
Many today have folded to a life of luxury, and ease and the sword turned to the lust of the flesh… using God’s name in vain, using His name for profit instead of souls.
The serpent doesn’t have a sword, but rather a venom. A venomous snake seeks to paralyze by its poison. I see those bitten by the serpent.
The devil has no sword but rather a poison.
ALL OF God’s Ministers are a flame of fire:
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”
7 In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels spirits,
and his servants flames of fire.”
The fire the angels have has a source. They have no eternal fire, but rather a source. All of God’s Ministers that have a sword in their mouth have a fire from Jesus. Jesus is the eternal word! Jesus has an Eternal fire! And Jesus is the Eternal sword!
In Acts 1:8, He said you shall receive power when the Holy Ghost has come upon you.
Do you have a sword in your mouth?
Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
In 1 Corinthians 14 Paul began by drawing attention to speaking to God and speaking to Men. Both require fire, and both have the sword of the mouth:
1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
