The Gift thru Impartation

2 Timothy 1:6  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Understand the difference between grace and gifts. Both are gifts… yes, but grace is different.

This is a foundational distinction, and once you see it clearly, it will unlock how you teach everything else: power, intercession, destiny, all of it. Both are “gifts,” but they are not the same thing, and they don’t operate the same way.

Grace is the enabling nature of God working in you.

Gifts are the expressions of God working through you.

“Every gift is a grace expression but not every grace is a gift. Grace forms your life, but gifts flow through your life.”

Grace, Greek: charis is God’s empowerment, favor, and divine ability placed within a person to become and to function.

It shapes your life, your calling, your endurance, your identity.

Paul said, “By the grace of God I am what I am”

1 Corinthians 15:10   But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

That means grace didn’t just help him preach, it made him who he was.

So grace is:

Who you are becoming?

What sustains you?

The measure of God’s enablement on your life

“Grace is what God builds into you so you can carry what He’s called you to.”

Not many people want to be like Joesph.

He went from the Pit to Potiphar’s house to the Prison to the Palace.

Those 13 years were not wasted, they were grace-filled preparatory years.

The Pit dealt with rejection

The house of Potiphar developed stewardship and integrity

The Prison formed endurance, humility, and spiritual sensitivity

So, by the time Joseph reached the Palace he wasn’t just promoted, he was prepared.

“The palace didn’t make Joseph; it revealed what the process had already formed in him.”

Joseph’s gift interpreting dreams was in evidence at the age of 17.
But the grace to carry the weight of destiny wasn’t fully formed yet.

So, God used time, pressure, and hidden seasons to build what the gift alone could not sustain.

“God will take you through process so your gift doesn’t take you where your character can’t keep you.”

“Grace is what God builds in you. Gifts are what God releases through you.”

Grace is the divine enablement of God shaping your life. It forms your character, your endurance, your calling, your capacity to carry what God gives you.

Paul said, “By the grace of God I am what I am” that means grace didn’t just help him do ministry, it made him into a vessel that could carry it.

So, grace is steady, forming, constant. It’s working in you when nobody sees you. It’s what keeps you faithful, humble, and aligned when pressure comes.

“Grace is God working on you so you can stand.”

Gifts are the manifestations of the Spirit prophecy, healing, tongues, words of knowledge. These are not who you are, they are what the Spirit chooses to do through you in moments. 1 Corinthians 12 says the Spirit gives them as He wills, meaning they are released at His direction, not ours.

Gifts are powerful, but they are expressions, not foundational.

“Gifts is God working through you so others can be touched.”

Grace is about identity and formation. Gifts are about function and demonstration.

Grace builds the man, while Gifts reveal the ministry.

“Grace is like the roots of a tree hidden, deep, and what sustains life. Gifts are the fruit visible, powerful, and what people see. But if the roots aren’t strong, the fruit won’t last.”

Gifts can operate without maturity, but grace produces maturity.

That’s why someone can prophesy and still struggle in character. That’s why Jesus said some would do mighty works, yet He would say, “I never knew you.” They had gift activities without grace-formed relationship.

“You can move in a gift and still be shallow, but when grace has worked on you, your life becomes deep.”

Grace must govern gifts

Grace keeps gifts: Humble, Pure, Submitted, Aligned with Scripture

Without grace, gifts can turn into performance, pride, or even manipulation. But when grace is strong, gifts become safe and powerful tools in God’s hand.

Praying in tongues may be a gift but the grace to live in the Spirit daily is what sustains that flow. Prophetic intercession may move through a gift but it’s the grace of a consecrated life that keeps it accurate and pure.

Gifts give you moments of power, Grace gives you a life of power

“A gift can open a door but only grace can keep you there.”

“God is not just looking for people He can use in gifts; He’s looking for people He can trust with grace. Because if grace is built strong, the gifts will flow right. But if you build on gifts without grace, what looks powerful today won’t last tomorrow.”

Let’s talk about Impartation

“Impartation is when something God has placed on one’s life is released into another life by His Spirit.”

It is not human transfer it is Holy Spirit transmission. Paul said in Romans 1:11, “I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established.”

That shows the purpose of impartation is not hype, it is strengthening and establishing believers.

“Impartation is not about making people excited it’s about making them established.”

Now bring clarity between grace and gifts here, because this is where it connects.

Through impartation: Gifts can be stirred or activated; Grace can be strengthened or increased in function.

Timothy is a perfect example. In 2 Timothy 1:6, Paul tells him to “stir up the gift which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.” That means something was deposited, but Timothy still had to steward it.

“Impartation may place something in you, but stewardship is what keeps it alive.”

Now let’s go deeper because impartation is not automatic.

It flows through three spiritual conditions:

Hunger, People receive according to their desire. Elisha asked Elijah for a double portion (2 Kings 2). He didn’t accidentally receive it he wanted it, “You can sit around impartation and still miss it if you’re not hungry for it.”

Honor, Honor creates a channel for reception. Elisha followed Elijah, served him, and stayed close. That wasn’t weakness that was positioning, “What you dishonor, you cannot receive from.”

Proximity Spiritual Alignment

You must be close not just physically, but spiritually open and aligned. The disciples didn’t just hear Jesus they walked with Him, lived with Him, received from Him.

John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Impartation does not replace relationship with God, it enhances it.

You cannot live off someone else’s oil. You can receive a spark, but you must maintain your own fire.

“Impartation can light a fire but only your relationship with God can keep it burning.”

True impartation often happens in moments of encounter with God’s presence. It’s not just someone laying hands, it’s when the Holy Spirit chooses to release something. That’s why in Acts 8, when hands were laid on believers, they received the Holy Spirit in a fresh way.

Impartation is not mechanical, It is presence-driven

“It’s like lighting one candle from another. The flame is shared, but both must have a wick ready to receive it.”

Moses – Joshua: Leadership & Authority

In Numbers 27:18–20, God told Moses to lay hands on Joshua and put some of his honor and authority upon him.

This wasn’t just a prayer it was a transfer of leadership grace so Joshua could lead Israel.

“Joshua didn’t just follow Moses he received from him.”

And Deuteronomy 34:9 confirms it. Now Joshua, the son of Nun, was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. Joshua was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses laid hands on him.

Impartation released: Leadership, Wisdom, Authority

Elijah – Elisha: Double Portion Prophetic Grace

In 2 Kings 2, Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. When Elijah was taken up, his mantle fell and Elisha picked it up.

This is one of the clearest pictures of impartation in Scripture.

Elisha didn’t just admire Elijah; he positioned himself to receive.

Impartation released: Prophetic Anointing, Spiritual Power, Continuation of Ministry

“The mantle fell but only the one who was ready picked it up.”

Jesus – The Disciples: Authority & Power

In Luke 9:1, Jesus gave His disciples power and authority over devils and to heal diseases.

Then in John 20:22, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

And in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit was poured out fully.

Impartation released: Authority, Power, Spirit infilling

This shows that impartation can come:

    • By word He gave them authority
    • By breath He breathed on them
    • By outpouring Pentecost

Apostles – Believers Holy Spirit & Gifts

In Acts 8:17, Peter and John laid hands on believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 19:6, Paul laid hands on disciples, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

Impartation released: Holy Spirit Activation, Spiritual Gifts

“There are moments when heaven chooses to release something through a touch.”

Paul – Timothy Gift Activation & Grace Strengthening

In 1 Timothy 4:14 and 2 Timothy 1:6, Paul reminds Timothy of the gift imparted through the laying on of hands.

Timothy had to stir it up.

Impartation released: Ministry Gift, Spiritual Function

Responsibility: Stewardship

“Impartation is a deposit but stirring it up is your responsibility.”

Jacob – His Sons Blessing & Prophetic Destiny

In Genesis 48–49, Jacob laid hands on his sons and spoke blessings over them. These were not just words, they were prophetic impartations shaping their future.

Impartation released: Blessing, Identity, Destiny

The Early Church Corporate Impartation Moments

In Acts 4:31, they prayed together, and the place was shaken, and they were all filled with boldness.

That’s a different kind of impartation not just one to another, but God pouring into a gathered people.

Impartation released: Boldness, Unity, Fresh Infilling
