Oil in the Famine

When I say famine, it’s not from God, it’s from man. He has chosen to live without the oil. As long as I’m Pastor, we will have oil. We are lamps, not candles.

Matthew 25:1-13 (New American Standard Bible 1995)

Parable of Ten Virgins

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. 11 Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.

The text we chose for this message puts great emphasis on oil. We understand when you don’t have it, you go buy it. If it was a natural oil, buying it wouldn’t be a big deal, you just simply go to where it’s sold and exchange the currency for the product. But this isn’t the kind of oil you can purchase at Walmart, this oil comes by the Spirit of the Lord. I don’t know how people run out of oil, nor do I know how they live without it.

The oil I speak of is the Anointing. When there is no oil the fire will have no effect; when a child has failure to thrive it will die. When the Spirit of life is gone, to have no oil means you are in the halls of death… unprepared to meet God.

The devil loves the mental chains, “the mental chains are greater than the metal chains”.

I’m here to tell you there is a continual supply of oil from the Spirit of God. This oil never fails. Where the oil is God will send fire, and when we seek God there will be oil. When oil and fire come together there will be light. Not just light but supernatural light.

Give us some of your oil for our lamps are going out: The foolish virgins were unprepared because they lacked oil for their lamps. In many Biblical passages, oil is an emblem of the Holy Spirit (for example Zechariah 4:1-7). Without oil the wedding party was not ready for the bridegroom. Without the Holy Spirit, no one is ready for the return of Jesus.

  • Oil makes a church flow right; anything is possible when there is oil

  • Oil heals; the Spirit of God brings healing and restoration. We pour in the oil and Spirit (Luke 10:34)

  • Oil lights when it is burned in a lamp — where the Spirit of God is, there is light. Oil and fire touch there will be light

  • Oil warms when it is used as fuel for a flame — where the Spirit of God is, there is warmth and comfort

  • Oil on our altars brings healing, deliverance, restoration, it brings the cure

  • Oil adorns when applied as a perfume — the Holy Spirit adorns us and makes us more pleasant to be around

No one can be a true Christian without the indwelling Holy Spirit. As it says in Romans 8:9: …Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. The soul that has no oil is a soul that’s unconscious, unaware that the Lord is about to return. I ask you do you have any oil?

What’s the difference between the 5 wise and the 5 foolish virgins? The wise believed and the foolish didn’t believe Jesus is coming.

Be filled with the Spirit as commanded in Ephesians 5:18. Never pour your oil to waste it. Drunkenness of the world is the wasting of the Spirit of God, wasting the oil.

The door was shut… “Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you”: The penalty was severe for the foolish maidens. They were not allowed to come to the wedding, and the door was shut.

The harvest is calling. For the church to answer this call it will take oil.

I can’t stand the thought of being a church with no oil, it’s a house of healing. Physical, mental, emotionally, the oil works. The oil of His Mighty Spirit will heal you.

Let me explain something to you. If someone has to keep going to the doctor for something that’s curable, why are we not healing them? Let’s just keep making money on them? No! let’s heal them,

Pastor is not giving a script, I Believe God for your healing. What’s the difference between tithes and offerings? The tithe is what you owe God, it’s the tenth, it’s given to God through his church, but it’s received by Him in heaven (Hebrews 11:8). The offering is what you have given to show your gratitude to the Lord for His mighty blessing.

No man can buy the oil. Yes, the oil is for sale, but the currency of heaven isn’t dollars and cents.

Psalms 51:16 -17 (NIV)

16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart
    you, God, will not despise.

Notice the Psalmist said, “My Sacrifice”, the only sacrifice God ever wanted was one that looked like Christ’s .

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

When I meet you on the road, the robber had ravaged you. I will have oil to pour, I will have life. “The wine” The Spirit of God.
