The Holy Spirit Produces Love, Joy and Peace.

1 Love by the Spirit

Text

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Colossians 3:13-14 (NKJV) 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also [must do.] 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

1 John 3:16-18 (NKJV)

16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

1 Corinthians 13 (the Love chapter) is positioned right in the middle of the chapters on gifts.

Gifts without the Spiritual fruit are dangerous!

It can be said that gifts are abilities and power

Fruit is Character.

FRUIT MUST BE CULTIVATED.

(Ask any Orchard foreman)

The right seed , compost, water drainage, rows, etc

Love is the principal thing

The fruit of the Spirit is Love expressed by………..all the others

John 13:34-35 (NKJV)

34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

35 “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Love is a commandment

It sums up all the law.

Jesus said this after he had just washed the disciples feet.

Francis Schaeffer said “The Lord has given the world the right to judge the church.

Colossians 3:13-14

Love will cause us to be forbearing toward others and forgiving.

Love is the glue it binds us together in all the other virtues .

Together Together.

Meaning we come in unity by this bond.

Psalm 133 when we come together, together there will be the anointing.

1 John 3:16 (NKJV)

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.

And we also ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren.

Sacrificial love was demonstrated by Jesus.

We are to daily lay down our lives. Christ has become our life.

Colossians says our life is his with Christ in God.

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the [life] which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

One word

Galatians 5:14 (NKJV)

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Love must be in deed and in truth.

Love walked the Judean countryside dead tired, love healed the crippled and blind,

Love stayed up all night praying.

Love died on the Cross for us.

To sum up

There are four words in the Greek for love

Eros- Romantic , passion , intimacy

Philia – friends/ emotions

Storge- Family / parents, children

Agape- unconditional, sacrificial, God’s love for us

Cultivating Agape love in 4 steps

1 The seed in a believer’s heart.

1 Peter1:22-23

1 John 4:7-8

  1. Romans 5:5 (NKJV) Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

This Agape love is poured out by the Holy Spirit.

Our heart becomes a vessel for God’s Love.

3 Cooperation of Our Will

This love is not centered in our emotions or the physical body but centered in the will.

  1. Expressed in action of laying down our lives.

We are obligated to lay down our lives for one another.

 (2) Joy by the Spirit.

Happiness is of the soul

Mind , intellect, emotions

It is based on circumstances.

Tell a story about Hannah.

Joy is spiritual

God is the only source of true joy.

True Joy is only found in our

Ongoing relationship with Christ.

It is produced in us by the Holy Spirit

Because God never changes we can have this Joy always.

Joy in all circumstances

1 Thessalonians 1:6 (NKJV)

And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

 Ministry gives us Joy

Luke 10:17 (NKJV)

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

Luke 10:21 (NKJV)

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from [the] wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

Our greatest joy is found in our relationship with Christ

and the assurance of our salvation.

Luke 10:20 (NKJV)

“Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Remember Paul wrote the joy epistle (Philippians) from prison!

Philippians 4:4 (NKJV)

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

(3) Peace by the Spirit

3 kinds of Peace

Peace with God

Peace of God

Peace in our relationships

with others

John 16:33 (NKJV)

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

I’m not worried!!

 Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

We are to ASK!!

Supplication means to ASK.

We are developing this fruit of Peace in our lives!

We Ask and according to his will we have the petition we desire of him!

Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)

28 “Come to Me, all [you] who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30 “For My yoke [is] easy and My burden is light.”

No fear of Judgement

1 John 4:18 (NKJV)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Jesus is the calm at the center of the storm

Remember there is calm at the center of the Storm

That calm is Love, Joy and Peace .

That calm is Jesus

When you get a bad report there can be peace , love and even Joy.

When your heart is broken there can be love, peace and joy.
