WHY YOU NEED THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST!

Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV)

Coming of the Holy Spirit

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all [a]with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (NKJV)

Prophecy and Tongues

1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

Saints of God, I’ve been filled with the Holy Ghost for over 40 years, and I can tell you today — I’m more convinced than ever — every believer needs the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues!

We are living in the last days. And if there was ever a time we needed power, it’s now. Religion won’t do it. Programs won’t do it. Motivational speeches won’t do it. We need the FIRE of Pentecost!

Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto Me…”

Somebody shout: “I need the power!”

1. God’s Promise “THE PROMISE OF PENTECOST” (Acts 2:1–4)

The Bible says, “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all in one accord, in one place…”

Suddenly (somebody, say suddenly) there came a sound from heaven, like a rushing mighty wind.

Tongues of fire sat upon each of them. And they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with tongues.

Notice — it wasn’t just the Apostles. It wasn’t just the men. It wasn’t just the preachers. It was ALL of them! Sons, daughters, young men, old men, servants, handmaidens.

That means it’s for YOU! The promise is to you, your children, and to all who are afar off (Acts 2:39).

2. THE PURPOSE OF TONGUES (1 Cor. 14:2, Acts 2:6–11)

Paul said, “He that speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no man understands him; howbeit in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.”

Vertical purpose (to God): Tongues are your hotline to heaven. When you speak in tongues, you’re not talking to man — you’re declaring divine mysteries. You are pulling decrees that were already settled in eternity into time.

It is pure Spirit-to-Spirit communication.

It bypasses the natural mind (1 Cor. 14:14). Your mind may not understand, but your spirit is speaking directly to God’s Spirit.

No filter of human reasoning, no interference from doubt, no room for fear or unbelief.

When you speak in tongues you are sending a message from time to eternity thru the Spirit.

“Kronos  “Cronos” , from which we take our word chronology its sequential time. Kronos is the time of clocks and calendars; it can be quantified and measured.

God lives in Eternity “Kairos” its circular, dancing back and forth, here and there, without beginning or ending, and knows no boundaries.

When we pray in tongues it has no boundaries it will reach God

The devil can’t intercept it, because it’s not a human language of earth — it’s a heavenly language straight from the throne.

Think of it like this:

On earth, when you make a phone call, it has to pass through towers, satellites, and networks that can get interrupted.

But when you speak in tongues, there is no tower, no satellite, no middleman. It’s a direct line to the throne room of God.

Romans 8:26 says, “The Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” That means the Holy Ghost takes your prayer, wraps it in heaven’s language, and delivers it straight to the Father.

Tongues are Spirit-to-Spirit:

  • Your reborn spirit is doing the speaking.
  • The Holy Spirit gives the utterance.
  • God the Father receives it.
  • No interference. No static. No misunderstanding.
Just heaven and earth in perfect agreement.

And when you finish praying in tongues, you feel lighter, stronger, edified — because even though your mind didn’t know what you said, your spirit just had a conversation with God Himself!

Horizontal purpose (to people): On the Day of Pentecost, people from every nation heard them magnify God in their own language. Tongues became a sign that this

Gospel is for the nations.

Don’t let anybody talk you out of it — we still need tongues today!

3. THE POWER OF PROPHECY (1 Cor. 14:3–5)

Paul says, “I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you prophesied.” Why?

Because tongues edify YOU, but prophecy edifies the church.

Tongues build you up, but prophecy builds others up.

In private prayer, tongues are your weapon. In public ministry, prophecy is your witness.

So don’t get it twisted — tongues are not inferior. Paul said, “I thank God I speak in tongues more than you all” (v. 18). He wasn’t downplaying tongues — he was balancing the gifts.

4. WHY YOU STILL NEED THE BAPTISM

Church, some say tongues were just for the early church. But if that’s true — then why do I still feel the fire 40 years later? Why do I still get mysteries when I pray in the Spirit? Why do I still see God move when people are filled at the altar?

We need it because the devil hasn’t retired.

We need it because the world hasn’t gotten better.

We need it because Jesus hasn’t come yet.

If Peter needed it, if Paul needed it, if Mary the mother of Jesus needed it in the Upper Room — YOU need it!

Tongues are the evidence. Power is the purpose.

Let me tell you this: the Holy Ghost is like electricity in your house. You can have the wiring, you can have the lightbulbs, but until you flip the switch and the power flows, you’re still sitting in the dark.

Salvation wires you to heaven, but the Baptism of the Holy Ghost FLIPS THE SWITCH. That’s when the light shines. That’s when the fire burns. That’s when the power flows!

5. What are you gonna do?

So the question is — do you have it?

Don’t settle for religion without power. Don’t be content with knowing about the Spirit, being filled with the Spirit is salvation releasing what God has filled you is the baptism.

Peter said, “This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel…” And I came to declare tonight — this is STILL that!

If you’re dry, you can be filled.
If you’ve never spoken in tongues, today can be your day.
If it’s been years since you felt the fire, you can be refilled right now.

Altar Call

I’m calling you right now to this altar. Desire comes before hunger If you’re hungry for more, if you want the fire of Pentecost, if you want the mysteries of heaven to flow through you — come and receive! The Holy Spirit has put a desire in you and now it’s a hunger.

Lift your hands, open your mouth, and God will fill you with the Holy Ghost.
The same wind that blew in the Upper Room can blow in this room today.

The same fire that fell then will fall now.

Somebody shout: “Lord, fill me with the Holy Ghost!”
