No Rushing It!
Psalm 37:23-24
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And He delights in his way.
24 Though he falls he shall not be utterly cast down: For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
I worked at a pizza place in Lake City with Frankie, and we had to learn how to put together different pizzas quickly. Orders would come back-to-back, and we had a lot to remember. We didn’t just make pizza, but we also prepared a variety of sides like fish, coleslaw, smoked Boston butt, hush puppies, and appetizers.
It was crucial to keep up with all of our vegetables, labeling them and ensuring they were fresh every day.
When I started, I couldn’t just go straight to cooking. I had to learn how to prepare, organize, sort, chop, and clean first. I wasn’t the patient type, and I wanted to jump in and do it all, but that didn’t work out for me.
I learned that after a while of observing and taking notes, and I became less interested in jumping into things.
I’ve always been an anxious person who doesn’t like to lay around. Since God saved me, I’ve never been the same, but I’ve also realized that my progress is slow, like a sloth.
It can be frustrating, but it’s part of the process, and we must face things about ourselves that we don’t want to confront.
So here I am, learning all these boring but essential things that I already knew. I wasn’t moving much, just watching and learning. They laughed at me because I’m usually fast at everything, but now I’m slowed down to a halt. I don’t like it, but it’s for my good.
God won’t put anything in our path that isn’t good for us, and what the enemy meant for evil, God will turn it for our good. He guides us back on track.
I started with washing 40,000 dishes and doing other odd jobs, but my application said I wanted to be a cook. Mrs. Kim, my boss, was an expert who knew exactly what to do and worked circles around me. She eventually let me cook, and I constantly apologized for my mistakes.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Our awesome God will get us where we want to go, but we need to trust Him and go through the process.
As I learned to cook, orders started to come in faster, and I had no time for anything else. I prayed all the time, “Help me, Jesus,” and I couldn’t do it without Him. Going through the process is part of God’s plan to create us in His image, not ours. We need to trust Him.
If you’re going through a tough time, keep hanging in there. He will see you through, and you are not alone.
Let Him take you through the process because you cannot do what He has called you to do until you go through it.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Praise Him, church!
