The Mouthpiece of God
The Heart of Prophecy
When we prophesy we are giving people the heart of God. What is God’s heart for his people?
God is love
He is our greatest encourager
His heart is full of forgiveness and blessing. His love for us is
Unlimited
Unconditional
Unending
Are you ready for the transition ?
To go from always hoping the minister has a word for us to being the one with the word for others?
Are you ready to be the one that has been drinking from the well , spending hours in fasting and prayer instead of just trying to put our straw in their bucket?
The Greek word for ministry is best translated service.
It is never going to be your ministry; we simply join hands and hearts with Jesus. It’s his ministry, we are just his humble servants.
Here is our main text:
1 Corinthians 14:1-3 (NKJV) 1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual [gifts,] but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands [him;] however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
We Are commanded to especially desire to Prophesy. See Luke 11:9-13
Spiritual gifts are tools not trophies. They are not awards for maturity.
what is prophecy?
What is Prophecy?
The act of speaking out the mind of God by divine inspiration.
Teaching/ preaching is not the same as prophecy Teaching is usually from a text
Prophecy is very often spontaneous
Can all Prophesy? Yes! Absolutely !
1 Corinthians 14:24-24 (KJV) But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or [one] unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 (KJV) 31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
Prophecy is mainly for
Exhortation-An utterance or discourse or address conveying urgent advice or recommendation.
Edification-improvement, instruction or enlightenment especially when morally or spiritually uplifting.
Comfort- to soothe console or reassure.
Prophecy is
Exhorting, Edifying, comforting, people Restoring the image of God in people. Telling people how God sees them
Showing people what God has for them.
What is prophecy
Removing ashes from people and covering them with the mantle of joy.
Waking up in people their passion for God. Bringing healing to people.
Prophecy is Setting the captives free. Prophecy comes from the desire to love and bless people We will prophesy well when we overcome the desires of our flesh
Because then our hearts will be in tune with God’s heart
and we will be able to know the secrets of his heart and able to communicate them without any fleshly interference.
Prophecy is foretelling and forth telling:
Often when God wants to speak to the future ( foretelling )it will be thru visions 3 categories
Those that occur during the context of Dreams.
2 those that occur during your normal awakened state 3 those that occur during the context of ecstatic states.
In any particular prophetic utterance there are at least three elements
1 divine revelation from the spirit.
(Which is always infallible)
2 the human interpretation of what that revelation means.
3an attempt to make application to the persons involved.
Old Testament and New Testament Differences
Many cessationists defend their position by Ephesians 2:20
*Ephesians 2:20
New International Version
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
In the Old Testament the Kings, Prophets, and Priests were God’s mouthpiece. In the New Testament we are all God’s mouthpiece.
*1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
In the Old Testament, the Priests were always from one tribe. In the New Testament we are a priesthood of believers.
In the Old Testament Prophets were executed for giving false prophecies.
These prophets were being deceitful.
1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
New King James Version
20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.
God never tells us in the New Testament to punish a wrong prophet.
